Teaching in Nepal

Ever fancied teaching English in a small rural community, where a real teaching experience can be obtained and enjoyed. Here in Nepal we have a small village school that struggles to maintain and survive on the meager handouts from the Nepalese government. Being a government school most of the children come from the surrounding areas where farming is the main occupation. Hence Education is seen as a way to escape poverty and the hard farming existence that many fall into. And because Nepal is a country dependent on tourism the knowledge of English is vital to someone getting a job.

Description of duties at placement- Help alongside the teachers in a country school set up in the foothills of the Himalayas where you will get the opportunity to interact with the students bring smiles to all. As English is so important in this area you will find all students are very happy to engage you in conversation so you will be busy most of the time. Please feel free to read stories to the younger children and help in all ways. One thing we encourage is volunteers bringing their own ideas to the placements and all new ideas are always welcome.

Placement Location- The school is situated north of Kathmandu approx 60 kms. It's near the main town of Trisuli home to some of the best rafting in all of Nepal. Set in the countryside there are some great walking and site seeing available. The weather is varied so please ask for details depending on time of year you wish to volunteer.

Accommodation- Will be provided by the local families near to the school, each one carefully selected so at least one member of the family speaks good English in order that you can communicate effectively. Also you will find that the local families in the home stay programme have been chosen because they also have good standing in the community and can introduce you to the traditional Nepalese life.

+ £80 admin charge to cover, admin, airport pickup, hotels stay, taxis, food sightseeing, transfers to and from placement.

As part of our work along the Baghmati River we will donate two family lifestraws for each month you spend in the village from your fees.

The program fee covers 1. Transport to and from the placement. 2. Meal and accommodation (Nepali standard) with host family during placement. 3. Accommodation and main meals during placement. 4. Sight seeing in Kathmandu.

The fee does not cover 1. Insurance (medical, travel, personal belongings) 2. Flight or land transportation from your country to Nepal. 3. Personal expenses (i.e. gift items, food in between meals, water) 4. Trekking, rafting, other adventure activities. 5. Visa costs. 6. Medical and Doctor Expenses
