Description

Background:

Founded in 2008, Naturopathic Medicine for Global Health is an international organization providing health care and humanitarian assistance in developing countries. NMGH's goal is to promote naturopathic medicine as a feasible and cost effective means of healthcare in developing countries, and to increase coverage and equity of basic health services. Our work focuses on areas of:

  • Women and child health
  • Improving Access to Health Care
  • Building Sustainable Health Delivery Models
  • Health Promotion and Public Health Research

NMGH conducts regular medical missions to Panajachel, Guatemala, during which medical volunteers (naturopathic doctors and other medical professionals) and interns provide free health care services to the local population. NMGH has recently started operating a Community Health Workers Project (CHW) in Lake Atitlan region, the world's first naturopathic-based community health worker program. The aim of the CHW Project is to help increase coverage and equity of basic health services for indigenous Maya women and children. The CHWs are trained to recognize basic medical emergencies and appropriately respond to these emergencies and make referrals to medical facilities along with them being health advocates for their communities and receive ongoing support and training from NMGH.
