Youth Challenge International (YCI) is recruiting a team of five volunteers between the ages of 18 and 35 with diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds for a twelve-week focused youth development project in Ghana from January 10 to April 1, 2013.
This exciting opportunity will include a pre-project distance-learning program, followed by an intensive twelve-week placement in Ghana. While in Ghana, you will work with YCI's partners to further the reach and relevance of their youth development program.
Key Project Activities Include:
- In conjunction with partners, design and deliver environmental awareness activities, including recycling and waste management, and deliver a small scale environmental campaign (i.e. tree planting)
- In coordination with partners, design and implement workshops integrating life skills, information technology and youth employment skill development including a Job Networking Fair focusing on providing employment opportunities and information for young women
- In coordination with key partner staff design and implement workshops on entrepreneurship for peer educators
- Work with key partner staff and peer educators to design and deliver substance abuse workshops in selected Senior High Schools
- Develop and deliver a leadership training workshop for young girls on International Women's Day (March 8)
Recommended Skills and Experience:
- Background in development, business or the humanities
- Knowledge of leadership issues as they relate to youth, especially female youth
- Knowledge of environmental issues on a global level
- Experience in designing, developing and implementing awareness and/or educational campaigns
- Experience in facilitation and/or community mobilization
- Training in gender issues; proven effectiveness in cross-cultural settings
- Experience working with at-risk or marginalized populations
- Prior overseas experience an asset
