Share Our Strength's Cooking Matters™ teaches families at risk of hunger that healthy cooking can be delicious, enjoyable – and most important – affordable. Through hands-on classes taught by volunteer culinary and nutrition experts, course participants learn how to select nutritious and low-cost ingredients and prepare them in ways that provide the best nourishment possible to their families. In short, they learn how to make the most of what they've got.
Today, eighty-five percent of Cooking Matters participants graduate from our courses, taking with them the improved nutrition practices, eating habits, and cooking and food budgeting skills they learned in Cooking Matters classes. Cooking Matters has received special recognition from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for excellence in nutrition education. For more information visit www.cookingmatters.org/mass.
BECOME A VOLUNTEER!
Cooking Matters is always looking for cooking and nutrition instructors to co-instruct our multi-session courses, in addition to class assistants and shoppers. Course series meet for two hours once a week for six weeks. Cooking Matters provides Volunteer training and all class materials, including curricula, cooking and teaching supplies, kitchen, and support staff.
We also offer many one-time opportunities: You can volunteer with us at healthy cooking workshops, food demonstrations, health fairs, or become a Shopping Matters facilitator and lead guided grocery store tours!
If you would like to get involved, check out our website for a list of New Volunteer Trainings and contact cookingmattersma@strength.org to RSVP.
