Background

Change African Child International (CACI) is a registered indigenous/local Non-Governmental Organization, Registration 9484, Certificate Number S. 5914/9962. It seeks to respond to the causes and impact of HIV/AIDS and poverty. CACI is community-based with its headquarters in Ndejje-Namasuba off Entebbe road, Wakiso District.

In light of the growing incidence of HIV/AIDS and its adverse socioeconomic impact, the need for establishment of a proactive community led initiative to mitigate the socioeconomic impact of AIDS was fore seen and Change African Child International (CACI) was initiated.

CACI mainly work on care and support to people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in order to mitigate the effects of the epidemic. Also, we aim at strengthening the coping of Orphans Vulnerable Children (OVC) and People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) families to progressively become self-reliant for economical sustainability of their families, as well as supporting the youth, women and the elderly in economic strengthening, leadership skills building the internal capacity of CACI staff for effective and sustainable programme design and implementation and finally supporting the community in Adult literacy.

We therefore invite overseas volunteers who can sacrifice they time, travel and stay costs, offering a service in any of our programms while at Change African Child International. These programms are:

Orphans and Vulnerable Children's Program (OVC)

  • This involves vocational training (in hairdressing, tailoring, cosmetology and ICT).It also includes parental counselling in homes, outreaches in primary schools on health issues and sanitation, trauma counseling and stress management as well as career guidance to the young children in schools who out of the busy parents/gurdians in supporting the children, instead they are abused both emotionally and pysically thus leading to high rates of school drop outs, early marriages and pregnancis at the age between 14 to 17years.

Women's Economic Empowerment

This program provides entrepreneurial skills through half-day workshops. In these we teach the management and establishment of small businesses and educate on saving schemes and the formation of small enterprise groups(e.g. soap making, baking, tailoring etc)
