The organization
Founded in 2007 Kaule e.V. runs agriculture projects in developing countries. Kaule e.V. members and supporters work as volunteers. The organization is financed by membership fees and by private, companies' and foundations' donations. Part of Kaule e.V.'s concept is to combine development cooperation and scientific outcome. More information at: http://en.kauleev.org/ (English), www.kaulev.de (German).
The project
From 2009 till 2011 Kaule e.V. ran a pilot project in the village Kaule, Nepal. The organization supported local farmers (15 families / 101 persons) by changing land management towards agroforestry. Agroforestry provides numerous advantages compared to conventional farming tending to monoculture. The pilot project succeeded thanks to the Kaule e.V. project manager and plenty of volunteers.
The next project comes up now: Farmers need to fully adapt to new techniques and achieved improvements. They will gain entire ownership for material and knowledge during the next years. Farmers want to spread their knowledge to interested families in Kaule and other villages. Furthermore, as there is a lack of suitable saplings, they want to establish a small agroforestry plant breeding center to provide continuous supply of agroforestry plants to the community. Kaule e.V. decided to continue supporting farmers with intent to sustainably ensure achievements of the pilot project.
Allowance:
Kaule e.V. is not allowed to invest raised funds in salaries. All funds need to be spent directly for materials and for the project's purpose. Kaule e.V. provides free accommodation and food to project managers during their stay in Kaule. Living and travelling costs (especially for non-Nepalese project mangers) cannot be paid by Kaule e.V. The pilot project's manager financed her stay and scientific work by scholarships. Kaule e.V. supports project managers by applying for scholarships.
Kaule e.V. looks forward to testify the stand-in project mangers' occupation and capacities by certificate of internship and/or letter of recommendation. To combine project management and research for thesis is possible.
Apart from that volunteers in Kaule profit of unforgettable and beneficial experiences!
