Maitri is a residential facility for people living with AIDS. We serve low-income men and women who are severely disabled from AIDS, and need respite or end of life care.
Volunteers at Maitri play a vital role in resident care, providing emotional and practical support; helping with outings, games and holiday events; escorting to doctor's appointments; sitting at the bedside of the sick and dying and more. To be a volunteer, you must submit an application and participate in our volunteer training.
We ask for a minimum six month commitment of four hours per week.
Our next 4-day training is March 2nd, 3rd, 9th and 10th from10am-5pm each day.
Participation in all 4 days is mandatory.
Just some of the training topics:
Sitting at the bedside of the dying…
Touch therapy…
AIDS update…
Grief and Loss…
Active listening skills…
Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
