The Organization
Meals On Wheels of San Francisco is committed to the belief that all seniors have the right to live independently with dignity and respect in their own homes for as long as it is safely possible. It is our mission to provide isolated homebound seniors in San Francisco with nutritious meals, daily human contact, and supportive services to prevent their premature institutionalization. We believe in delivering more than a meal - we are nourishing the whole person.
"Isolation is a killer at any age and connection fosters life at every age."
The Volunteer Opportunity
About 70% of the clients we serve live alone and for most of them, our meal delivery drivers and staff are the only source of daily human contact they receive. As we all know, being around great company can help flourish lives with increased happiness.
Our Friendly Visitor program requires a 6-month commitment and provides an opportunity for you to help deliver the spark of light and happiness to our client. We will find you a match with one of our clients and you can chat over a cup of tea, play board-games together, or watch movies you like!
The volunteer hours are very flexible, as we understand your work schedule and lifestyle.
This is one of the most rewarding experience in volunteering because you're able to create a special bond with someone whom you've never thought you would!
Be sure to check out our website for more information on volunteering opportunities and our agency!
