Help us make college completion a reality by signing up to serve as a mentor! We are currently recruiting volunteers for the 2016-2017 academic year!
Since 1991 College Bound has helped students achieve the goal of graduating from high school and going to college. College Bound has six academic mentoring sites, located in Washington DC, that serve middle and high school students.
College Bound practices a one-to-one mentoring model, one student is paired with one mentor ("partner") and both work together throughout the school year to achieve academic success. Students and partners are committed to meeting once a week for 2 hours at their designated academic site but also completing at least one monthly activity outside of site to continue building the foundation needed for a pair to thrive.
During the weekly site meetings, students tap into the academic, social, and cultural knowledge bases of their mentors to help make college success a reality. These meetings allow pairs to work on a variety of program components including but not limited to journaling, reading, math, Take Stock in Children which is a comprehensive curriculum for 8th graders, college and scholarship research, and SAT/ACT prep. Partners play an essential role in strengthening students' basic skills and assisting them with college preparation.
Your support, your experience, and your knowledge are invaluable to helping support our students' journey to a college degree. With the help of people like you, College Bound can expand their services to meet the growing demand of students with college aspirations as we serve more students than ever in our 25th year!
Our 6 conveniently located academic mentoring sites are all conducted in the evening and allow you the flexibility to pick a location and time that works best for you.
