See South America and Visit Colombia! La Mesa is a beautiful small town outside of Bogota, Colombia. A short drive will take you to a very different world. Moving out of the city and up into the mountains you are quickly surrounded with a beautiful landscape and friendly people.

Fundación Construyendo Sueños A.C. serves the rural community of San Javier, located just outside of Bogota. The organization has been working with 20 families for the past 3 years. The organization works with the youth and their families to create stronger, healthier relationships and to encourage goal setting and continuing education for the youth and young adults. The secondary benefit of this organization's work is the development of the community!

Volunteer Opportunities

Photography. Run a photo workshop! The children of FCS have access to cameras and have all graduated the "Photo 101" workshop! They are eager to learn more and share their community with you as they learn.

IT development & classes. Computers skills are something that FCS would like to offer to their students. They are currently trying to develop a computer lab where the children can do their homework and learn more about using the computers.

Entrepreneurship. Teach a workshop to the youth or the young adults about starting their own business. Much of what FCS is focused on is educational development that allows for personal growth as well as benefits the community. They are always looking for opportunities that don't demand that the children leave the area to seek work.

Social Work. The primary focus of FCS is the family as a whole unit. They work with the parents as well as the children with the belief that this will provide for greater opportunities for the children themselves. If you have a background in social work, they are always looking for new activities and strategies to engage the families.

Global Citizenship Program. Share stories and images of travel and life in other countries. Learn about culture, geography and the natural world together through an exchange of knowledge between the traveler and the children.

Other Opportunities. Teach computer skills, help with reading /English, social workers & educators help with the Life Plan Program, work with a child who is interested in a specific skill.

We are focused on leveraging your skills. If you have an idea for a workshop or another way to support this organization, Do Good as You Go will work with you to make this possible!
