Mission
Meals On Wheels of San Francisco is committed to the belief that all seniors have the right to live independently with dignity and respect in their own homes for as long as it is safely possible. It is our mission to provide isolated homebound seniors in San Francisco with nutritious meals, daily human contact and supportive services to prevent their premature institutionalization.
Need
Many Meals On Wheels of San Francisco (MOWSF) homebound seniors find housework to be difficult, if not impossible, on their own. Almost 70% of our seniors live alone and a majority of them suffer one or more physical limitations. This important one-time group volunteer opportunity addresses this need.
MOWSF Clean Team Program benefits:
For Homebound Seniors:
- Home safety inspection: referrals for needed safety items and/or community services to MOWSF social workers
- Personal interaction with our volunteers to alleviate some isolation and overcome insecurity about their home condition
- A cleaner and safer living space for homebound seniors
- An introduction to companionship programs, such as the Friendly Visitor and Grocery Shopper programs
- A clean home, and the opportunity to have it cleaned quarterly
For Your Team of Volunteers:
- Personal interaction with the homebound seniors we serve
- Turn your group of individuals into a team, united by their shared experience, emotions and the impact they make together on the lives of homebound seniors
- Achieve measureable results that volunteers and clients will see at the end of the session, creating an instant and ongoing sense of accomplishment
- Flexible weekday and weekend opportunities, accommodating groups up to 40
- No cleaning skills or supplies necessary! We make it easy and fun, providing a group leader/client liaison to ensure and "good time" for your team
Applicable fees: $27 background check or letter from HR department at your workplace indicating you have been background checked.
