Learning English in India is an incredibly advantageous skill, opening doors to students which would otherwise be closed. As such, WorldTeach is focusing its efforts in underserved communities that would not otherwise have the opportunity to learn English.
Volunteers will serve at one of three partner orphanages or at Rising Star Outreach, an NGO dedicated to helping leprosy-affected families. Volunteers will teach English during the day and support their students in after-school tutoring and enrichment activities.
Volunteers will teach English to students of varying age levels, depending on their site. Volunteers placed at orphanages will teach English at the local schools the orphans attend, as well as work with these students after school, assist with homework and promote extracurricular activities. Volunteers placed at Rising Star Outreach will teach at this NGO's school and work with the students after school on academics and other extra-curricular activities. Click here for more info!
Volunteers will depart early May 2014 for orientation and must commit to 11 months of volunteering. Applications are accepted on a rolling admissions basis until positions are filled by March 1st, 2014.
The volunteer financial commitment covers roundtrip airfare, health and evacuation insurance, housing, and monthly stipend to cover basic living expenses.
The year long program requires volunteers to be between the ages of 18 and 65 by the departure date. Volunteers must also have a Bachelor's degree (in any subject) and demonstrate a desire to teach. Volunteers need not be a US citizen, but must be a native English speaker.
