We are looking for great people who would love to volunteer to help run an LGBT support group for a set of energetic, smart, sharp teens ages 14-18. A usual meeting consists of check-ins about what's going on in their lives, activities around issues of self-esteem, family dynamics, social skills, and discussions about how we can all give each other support in a very tough, and sometimes cruel world we live in due to who we are and who we love.
Volunteers would help out facilitate our meetings and activities, which happen every 1st and 3rd Sundays from 3:45pm-6pm at the church in Rockville. I would like for volunteers to commit to at least one Sunday a month to help facilitate meetings, and attend one volunteer meeting a month. You do not have to have a mental health professional background, but knowledge of LGBT issues, experienced with middle to high school aged children, at least the age of 25 (or over 21 is acceptable if enrolled in a program of higher education and/or training program with mental health/social work/or other service backgrounds) would be amazing. With anyone interested in doing this work, I would like to set up a meeting with them first to discuss the opportunity more.
