Volunteer Opportunity description

The Temple of Understanding (ToU), an NGO with consultative status through ECOSOC and the DPI at the United Nations, also offers educational programs to youth and adults on cross cultural and interrelligious understanding. We are currently seeking 10 Social Media Interns for an event we are hosting in the month's of March and April 2013. The requirement is a 1 -2 month commitment.

POSITION PURPOSE: The Social Media Internship position supports the Marketing and Communications department in its efforts to promote current ToU activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION: Social media interns will assist with the development of online social media strategy, outreach and distribution for an online event being hosted by the ToU. Interns will provide supporting work on Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Facebook accounts; daily online outreach; strategy development and research. You will learn key skills for online organizing that will apply to nonprofit and for profit ventures.

The ideal candidate has either completed or is about to complete an undergraduate degree in public relations, communications or closely related fields; possess excellent writing and communication skills; effective time management skills; ability to manage short-term projects quickly and effectively; and work independently or as a team member.

Applications should include online link to your Twitter, blog, Facebook, LinkedIn and/or Pinterist account or if you have an online portfolio that represents your knowledge of social media.

TIME COMMITMENT: The ToU is seeking part-time candidates able to work 5-10 hours per week from home and attend team meetings once a week for 4-7 weeks. Expected start date is March 1, 2013 and end date is April 19, 2013.
