About Sustainable Silicon Valley (SSV):

SSV is leading Silicon Valley to a more sustainable future through collaboration with local government agencies, businesses, and community organizations to identify and address these highest-priority environmental issues. We do this by engaging prominent Valley organizations to proactively work toward self-imposed goals of reducing regional CO2 emissions and water use --and helping them translate those goals into measurable results.

Position: Webmaster

Type: Non-Compensated, Volunteer Position

Time Commitment: 10-15 hours/week, 3-6 months or longer

Reports to: Director of Operations

About the position:

The growing team of webmasters are responsible for ensuring a smooth deployments of SSV's two web sites ( & Members are points of contact for multiple teams, departments, groups, and individuals who want to publish content. The webmasters takes care of processes being followed or getting defined allowing proper management of planned changes and go-lives. The webmasters collaborate with the IT team, developers, and team leads to ensure proper release planning and tracking, as well as follow-up on websites' issues, helping to drive problems through the resolution process.

We are interested in meeting candidates who demonstrate experience in collaborating across teams and the skills to coordinate efforts, effectively manage and track issues, establish a plan and follow through. It is preferred that the candidates have their own laptop and communications tools.

This is a volunteer position, which offers qualified candidates the opportunity to gather experience and to prove their capabilities in a non-profit organization environment engaging with Bay Area companies of all sizes in the field of sustainability. The ideal candidates should commit a minimum of 10-15 hours per week working at the SSV Santa Clara office location.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply and enhance existing processes for deploying changes to our websites
  • Collaborate and follow-through with multiple teams to establish and continuously update a deployment plan
  • Oversee and improve user experience with SSV websites
  • Collaborate in existing efforts on the topics of performance reporting and web analytics
  • Participate in activities around website performance and traffic analysis

Qualities and Skills:

  • Minimum 2 years IT experience
  • As part of the responsibilities it is helpful to have some experience in basic HTML or CMS systems (interest and willingness to learn can substitute for missing actual experience)
  • Ability to collaborate in a team setting and contribute to team goals
  • Self-directed with time management, planning and organization skills
  • Good communication skills in interaction with colleagues and superiors
  • Attention to detail, ability and interest to research
  • Reliable contributor to overall organizational goals
  • Resourceful and able to find creative solutions, thinking beyond current systems and approaches toward continual improvement
  • Technically savvy and adept at learning new software programs
  • Proficient with standard IT applications (e.g. MS Office Suite, Windows, …)
