Sexual and reproductive health and HIV /AIDS – STD's issue is a great challenge especially in communities of Ghana where cultural practices and beliefs play active or key role in the life of an individual.
Ghana has a multi ethnic or cultural groups which have different perception about their sexual health in terms of religion, beliefs, faith, customs and cultural practices. The situation has resulted to the increase number of sexual related problems such as increasing rate of HIV /AIDS – STI'S, unwanted and teen age pregnancy, illegal abortion and the lot among the populace specially the young people. The situation needs to be addressed so as to check possible future threats. Centre for Human Healthcare therefore aimed at providing quality, broad-based education, training, counseling, workshops and other basic services such as referrals and treatment on sexual and reproductive and HIV / AIDS – STI's health issues to the populace especially to the vulnerable young people in both rural and urban communities.
Over the years, volunteers from abroad have played a significant role in the organizational sexual and reproductive health programs and projects. Interested volunteers are kindly invited to apply for the position of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Coordinator to help promote and improve upon our sexual and reproductive health programs and projects towards the realization of the organizational goals.
Note: Volunteers can choose to work in either one or both of ''sexual and reproductive health ''and ''HIV/AIDS-STI's''. Please, be specific to indicate this when completing the volunteer application forms.
i) The resource Centre:
One of the rooms in the Centre is furnished as a community friendly health resource centre for the sexual and reproductive health, HIV / AIDS – STI's and substances (drugs, alcohol and tobacco).
We aim to make as many resources as possible available to the public, students, teachers, educators, health professionals etc in the communities.
Activities
To provide basic services at the resource centre including STIs, contraception etc education and management
To organize training, education, counseling and workshops sessions for our target groups and clients in schools and communities on sexual health and reproductive health and HIV / AIDS – STI's.
To make valuable information on sexual and reproductive and HIV / AIDS – STI's health issues highly accessible to young people in and out of school.
To help strengthen our existing network of health promotion programs and educators in the school-based and community-based outreach groups such as student groups community associations
To handle issues realated to family planning, abortion cases, unplanned pregnancy, contraception etc
ii) Community and School Educational Outreach:
Activities
To help plan, draw and implement sexual and reproductive health programs and or HIV / AIDS – STI's in schools and communities.Study the concept and nature of sexual and reproductive health and or HIV / AIDS – STI's issues and infection rate in the various regions and communities in Ghana.
To provide education and training on sexual and reproductive health and or HIV / AIDS – STI's basic health vocabulary, prevention and other related activities in the local schools and communities.
To coordinate with the organizational school / community health education coordinators
To provide education, training, counseling and workshops for our target groups and clients in schools and communities to promote peer education and trainer of trainee program.
iii) Referral Services:
Centre for Human healthcare collaborate with partner clinical health institutions such as Offinso health directorate, Offinso community clinic and Marie Stopes International, Kumasi branch.
Referral cards are issued to our clients at the resource centre after an identified problem (s). Our referral services for treatment include:
Family planning care and counseling (All methods), STI's management, Comprehensive abortion care, Infertility cases, Sexual and reproductive health information and counseling. Other reproductive health problems and challenges (including unplanned pregnancy, condom failure, family planning and birth spacing, contraception needs etc).
iv) The Clinic:
We also plan to operate a small clinic in the near future that will provide basic testing for STI's and pregnancy, physical examinations and other basic sexual and reproductive health and HIV /AIDS – STI's services.
It is the passionate and driven desire of the members of the center to create a place other than the hospital where individuals can obtain these vital resources. We are searching for any individuals with skills ranging from social work, medical, nursing, counseling, and administration, resource gathering, grant writing, teaching and training around reproductive health issues, and so on to join us in our building of this center
This sexual and reproductive health and HIV /AIDS-STI's volunteering services would also help interested volunteers who want to conduct a research work or for further educational study or program.
Interested volunteers can apply to stay from two (2) weeks up to two or three months. Volunteers who wish to extend their volunteering program would be both professional and socially accessed on the period spent and has to be done in consultation with the organizational management team and the volunteer consent.
Interested volunteers should take note of the following; The organizational management team has developed the following services for our volunteers to promote effective volunteering program. 1) Accommodation is free to all volunteers 2) A twenty four (24) hour internet services is free to volunteers throughout the period of stay. 3) Transportation from the airport to the project site is free to all volunteers but volunteers may opt to help. 4) Two (2) days internal orientation and community visitation are organized for volunteers for free 5) Certificates, testimonials and documentary throughout the period of stay are provided for volunteers for free of charge. 6) Identity cards are provided for volunteers to enhance visitation to other tourist attraction centers during weekends or other working days 7) Volunteers would pay weekly feeding support fee of 65 United States dollars. This includes three (3) meals a day, provision of fruits, vegetables, bottled water (Voltic) and other drinks. 8) Optional: Volunteers in their own free will can decide to support any of the organizational projects and programs after having a close contact to our services and programs and projects. 9) Internal arrangement for field trips, educational visits and excursions can be organized for volunteers during weekends for interested volunteers. 10) Volunteers should make their own travel arrangements and pay for their air ticket but should contact the Executive / Project Director for the necessary document and support for visa when the need arises.
