Friendship Circle is a non-profit organization that provides programs and support to the families of individuals with special needs. In addition to assisting individuals with special needs, the Friendship Circle enriches its vast network of volunteers by enabling them to reap the rewards of selfless giving.

The Special Needs Coordinator will work with children who have special needs, teen volunteers, instructors, group leaders, volunteer coordinators and families to ensure creativity and success of participants. The Special Needs Coordinator is present for all programming with a specific focus on participants; identifying plans, strategies and tools to ensure maximum impact and engagement during programming.

The Special Needs Coordinator reports to the Program Manager communicating all program information on an ongoing basis.


  • Identify participant needs and create individualized behavior plans and behavioral tools, including the creation and execution all visual aids.
  • Coordinate with parents, schools and therapists to ensure consistent implementation of behavior aids at Friendship Circle.
  • De-escalate meltdowns or behavioral issues during programs.
  • Break down all program spaces at the end of each program and maintain the activity wing by breaking down activities nightly while following activity wing cleaning, organization and ordering procedures.
  • Provide regular program feedback to the Program Manager, specifically, incidents, volunteer pairings and family communication.
  • Provide program feedback to the Volunteer Coordinators, specifically, pairings, strategies and participant needs.
  • Act as main staff while on site for Teen Trips and the Teen Health and Fitness Program.
  • Be present and participate as support staff for the entirety of the following programs; Sunday Circle, Friends at Lifetown, Life Skills, The Fine Arts, Social Skills, Drama and Music and the annual camps.
  • Create and execute individual behavioral profiles for all participants to be used by instructors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Collaborate with Family Coordinators to create and execute programming for member respite programs, dinners, family fun days, special events and seasonal programs.
  • Be present and execute programming for birthday parties and other building rentals on a case by case basis.
  • Respond to all new families and schedule and conduct new family intakes.
  • Mentor teen volunteers to be as effective as possible with their buddies.
  • Reliable in attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with all Friendship Circle policies and procedures.
  • Maintain professional, positive, and courteous manner.
  • Attend all necessary meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet organization needs.
