Come to Chiapas and have an impact on peoples' lives while improving your Spanish. Work on community building projects in and around San Cristóbal, Chiapas along with area residents. All of our projects have been specifically identified to meet community needs and will be sustainably created.
The projects include:
- Construction of a mushroom producing hut with alternative materials – seta mushrooms have become an important source of protein and extra income in the indigenous communities around San Cristobal
- Construction of a children's park out of recycled materials with RISE Now – the lack of specific play areas for children leads to many playing in unsafe and dangerous conditions
- Construction of low-smoke cook stoves – a fuel efficient stove design reduces asthma, lung disease, and pneumonia and slows deforestation
- Refurbish a remedial education center enhancing the educational opportunities for local children
Every evening participants will take two hours of Spanish class to supplement their service experience. Classes can be individually geared for specific university level Spanish credit requirements.
The program is set up as four separate weeks. You can elect to participate in as many of the weeks as you like. The service component will take place Monday through Friday, with weekends free to explore all that Chiapas has to offer.

Fees include all lodging, full breakfast and lunch Monday through Saturday, transportation to and from the project sites, ten hours of language class a week, materials for construction projects and 24-hour staff accompaniment.
