We currently give weekly workshops to a group of women that focus on helping them better their perception of themselves and teaching them sewing skills as well as basic mathematic and reading/writing skills. We are working on expanding the workshops to include teaching them skills such as: business, marketing, and sales.
The majority of the women in Cerrito and in the program lack basic math and reading/writing skills which are necessary to take measurements and apply to the pattern, and when taking notes for the classes. Most of the women have only completed primary school, and therefore have difficulties with reading, writing and doing math.
During the classes OCN keep track on the women and their improving sewing skills as well as their personal development. At the 10th class we made evaluations of the program – the evaluations can be found on the server under: HELP Women, Cerrito. By the end of the project the women will ideally have gained skills in measuring and construction of skirt, pants and blouse. However, we will need to further educate them in business/marketing to give them the knowledge they need to carry on from there.
