Volunteer Opportunity description

Refugee and immigrant service providers of Santa Clara County have joined the "New Americans Campaign" to raise awareness and provide services for eligible immigrants toward citizenship. U.S. citizenship is an important step in immigrant integration, and strengthens our community. During the Citizenship Workshop, our collaborative will be assisting with naturalization applications and processing at Santa Clara County Social Services; with the help of volunteers such as yourself, we will be able to provide these services for free.

Volunteers will assist with:

- coordinating language assistance for applicants who need translators

- pre-screening attendees for eligibility for naturalization

- completing N-400 naturalization applications

- completing fee waivers applications for low-income applicants

- referrals to pro-bono legal consultations

- referrals to ESL and civics classes to prepare for the citizenship test and interview

The time commitment will be:

1.5 hour training, on Saturday, May 11th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am or Tuesday, May 14th from 5:30 to 7 pm

3 hours on the day of the event, Sunday, May 19th
