Volunteer Opportunity description

It's time to start planning for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's 2012 Summer Camp. Camp is held at Camp Westminster Woods in Occidental, CA from August 3 to August 9, 2013. August 3 will be devoted to counselor training and team building, with campers arriving on August 4th.

MDA's camp program is offered free of charge to our client families who have a child (ages 6 to 17 years-of-age) living with a neuromuscular disease. MDA camp offers a fantastic camp experience and gives children living with muscle disease the opportunity to form powerful friendships and build self-confidence in a safe and supportive environment. The MDA is a national not-for-profit organization that funds medical research, provides assistance for durable medical equipment and other services like support groups, educational seminars, funding multi-disciplinary neurology clinics across the U.S., and providing over 90 free summer camp programs for our youngest clients.

Serving as a volunteer counselor is an excellent way to make a difference in the life of a child, as well as to gain volunteer hours and valuable experience for your resume, college, or graduate school application. This volunteer opportunity is particularly well-suited to individuals interested in pursuing careers in the nonprofit sector or health care industry.
