Volunteer Opportunity description

Coach 8-15 girls (either 3rd-5th grade or 6th-8th grade) twice a week right after school using the GOTR curriculum. Every site has a minimum of 2 coaches.

GOTR-DC depends on volunteers to coach our students. Before meeting with students, our coaches become CPR certified and attend an intensive, 3 hour long training session. Coaches are provided with a well-developed, well-researched curriculum which has been used successfully by GOTR around the country. Each site will have 2 coaches.

A Coach has the following responsibilities:

  • Become CPR and First Aid certified
  • Attend Coaches' Training
  • Prepare for and lead practices 2 days per week (generally at the end of the school day)
  • Serve as a role model for young girls and understand and believe in the mission of Girls on the Run
  • Plan and coordinate the end of season party
  • Plan and coordinate the community project for team
  • Run with the girls in the end of season 5k race/walk
