VOLUNTEER TO TEACH LITERACY! Seeking a volunteer to teach literacy to a Spanish-speaking immigrant worker who was never given the chance to learn to read and write as a child, and now wants to learn literacy in her own language.
Our Organization: The Building Skills Partnership (BSP) is a statewide non-profit collaboration between the Californian janitors' union (SEIU-USWW), community leaders, and responsible businesses to build a strong future for building service workers, their families, and communities by advancing skills, opportunities, and self sufficiency.
Volunteer Skill Requirements:
Responsibilities:
When: Flexible meeting schedule per tutee's availability - Monday to Thursday after 4:30pm, Friday mornings, or Saturday mornings
Where: 3411 E. 12th St., Suite 200, Oakland, CA (in the plaza off the Fruitvale BART stop).
Benefits: As a volunteer at BSP you will receive training and acquire skills in teaching ESL, gain knowledge about the issues facing newcomer families, and learn about the social services and other resources available to immigrants and low-wage workers in the Bay Area counties. BSP is a registered 501(c)(3) and volunteer hours can count towards fulfilling a community service requirement.
