Today there are 1.5 million college-educated, work authorized immigrants, refugees and asylees living in the United States who are either unemployed or underemployed. In their home countries they were educators, bankers, lawyers, engineers, scientists, doctors and non-profit professionals. In the US they are currently working as nannies, cabdrivers, janitors, security guards and gas station attendants. Upwardly Global (www.upwardlyglobal.org), started in San Francisco, is a progressive non-profit that works to integrate these legal, underemployed immigrant professionals into the workforce and reclaim their careers in the US.
We are looking for professionals (at least 2-3 years professional experience) from various backgrounds to donate 4-10 hours a month for a 6 month period to mentor these immigrant professionals.
Upwardly Global mentors play a crucial role in assisting our jobseekers to help rebuild their careers and to impact the lives of those in need. Mentors provide encouragement, support and professional advice to these highly qualified and motivated individuals. Mentors help our jobseekers practice and improve their interviewing and networking skills, as well as share first-hand experience in the field of their expertise. Mentors need to have at least two years of professional experience in the US. They do not need to speak a second language.
Join us as a volunteer and become a mentor today by simply registering here!
