Volunteers who make the choice to teach English will be placed in a secondary school in St Petersburg as a foreign language teacher. The students are 14-17 years old, with the average group size for language learning being 8-10 students.
Volunteers will have the help of a teacher from the school who will help to prepare language classes. Although Russian language skills are welcome they are not a requirement as students should speak some English. This is a great opportunity for all concerned as both the Russian teaching staff and students will be enriched through coming into contact with a teacher who is a native English speaker and who brings new and innovative methods to the classroom.
The summer school holidays run from 1 June through until 1 September. During this time teaching volunteers will work with individuals and groups of adults who need help to improve their English.
Volunteers have an amazing opportunity to experience St. Petersburg and pick up new skills.
While it is not a pre-requisite to joining this program, we highly recommend all Teaching and Education volunteers complete the 120 hour TEFL course prior to volunteering.
