Volunteer Opportunity description

AmeriCorps is the national service initiative that provides community service opportunities to people of all ages and backgrounds. Through their service, AmeriCorps member address critical needs in local communities, such as building affordable housing, tutoring and mentoring youth, fighting illiteracy, improving health, and helping communities respond to disasters. Beaches Habitat for Humanity partners with AmeriCorps members to build homes and relationships with our families and volunteers.

For the 2014-2015 Program Year, Beaches Habitat for Humanity is seeking qualified applicants to fill 4 Construction Crew Leader positions. These are 10.5 month, full-time positions for which the member will receive a modest living allowance, education award, and valuable professional experience serving Beaches Habitat that brings people together to build homes, community, and hope.

Position Description Members will assist the construction team in leading and training teams of volunteers in construction tasks with the goal of completing 20 homes in 2014-2015. Requirements (abbreviated)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older;
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the U.S.;
  • High School diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's Degree preferred;
  • Valid Driver's License and no serious driving related convictions/at fault accidents;
  • Ability to be on one's feet for extended periods of time;
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis;
  • Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding and heights of up to two-stories;
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions – sites are not heated during winter and not air-conditioned during summer.
