Volunteer Opportunity description

Tailoring Project Volunteer

Ideally suited to those with experience and knowledge of tailoring and working with children.

This project will involve working on a tailoring project at Kariba Primary School assisting the SCZ team to implement workshops with the students and design tailoring products for the local and international market. A key aim would be to write a tailoring toolkit for schools in order to allow our remote SCZ schools to run their own tailoring workshops.

Who we are

The School Club Zambia is a registered Zambian Non-Governmental Organisation and technical support network, which is working in partnership with our local District Education Boards to implement a model of financial self-sufficiency with vulnerable community schools. The overall goal for each community school enrolled in our programme is financial self-sufficiency, as this allows a school to cover all of its expenses through a diverse range of school-run enterprises. The model develops trade, skill diversification and confidence rather than aid and dependency. For more information join us on Facebook or take a look at our website www.schoolclubzambia.org

At The School Club Zambia we are passionate about sustainability and having a positive impact on the communities we work with. It is for this reason that we interview all prospective volunteers and ask that you are at least 21 years of age and have some sort of experience relevant to the field in which you would like to volunteer. Equally, if you have a skill that you feel you could use to help benefit the local community let us know and we'll see how best to utilise your experience.

Location

Based in Zambia's Southern Province on the shores of the beautiful Lake Kariba you will be exposed to some of the amazing wildlife the region has to offer including Elephant, Zebra, Bushbuck, Kudu, Bush pig, Warthog, Ostrich and Impala not to mention all manner of birds and of course the Crocs. Deep in Tonga land, the area is steeped in tradition and rich in culture.

Despite the national language of Zambia being English, there are a total of 72 official languages in the country. The majority of local people in the region speak Tonga, however Nyanja, Lozi, and Bemba are also common.

Accommodation

Our volunteer accommodation is based at the beautiful Kariba Bush Club (www.karibabushclub.com) situated right on Lake Kariba where we offer shared rooms for two to four people as well as all amenities including the pool, bar, kitchen, and even a beach volleyball court.

What Zambia has to Offer

Whether you want to go and see some more of the country or try some of the amazing activities on offer, there's no shortage of things to do. From safaris to kayaking, white water rafting and bungee jumping to experiencing one of the seven natural wonders of the world, Victoria Falls.
