Volunteer Opportunity description

http://volunteeringnepal.org/programmedetails.php?pid=16&page=Construction%20and%20Manual%20Work Most of the schools in Nepal do not have basic physical infrastructures like toilets, drinking water, classrooms, playgrounds, libraries, laboratory and teaching resources. Consequently, students are facing many problems and often find difficulties to continue their studies. Many children leave schools due to lack of congenial study environment at school. VIN has been trying its best to provide basic support to those schools in its catchments in support with overseas volunteers and community people who are ready to help construct basic infrastructures and other urgently needed improvements.

VIN therefore appeals interested individuals, students, tourists, professionals, organizations, and other groups who can support by contributing funds and materials or even more importantly by getting themselves involved in construction program, at the same time touring different region of Nepal. This endeavor of volunteers will really give them self satisfaction since community people and school family will acknowledge their work.

When the volunteers first arrive in Nepal they may enjoy sight seeing or some light trekking for a few days. Upon their return to Kathmandu, they will travel to schools /health posts in rural areas to construct physical infrastructures-- e.g. toilets, libraries, class-rooms, compound walls, water supplies, garden and play-grounds etc. Once placed, the groups will work there between one or more weeks.

Volunteers do not have to have any skills or knowledge about construction, as they will mainly be doing unskilled work such as digging, mixing sand and cement, carrying rocks, sand and bricks, fetching water, and painting the school buildings. They will be led by skilled Nepali and work together with local community people who will be providing free labor for the betterment of their communities.

Volunteers who wish to stay for longer periods may participate in our other volunteer programs- e.g. teaching in schools, community education and environmental awareness program, working in orphanages.

VIN will arrange for volunteering sites, skilled manpower, food and accommodation, logistical support and training, etc. Volunteer will stay and eat with Nepali family, where they will have a great opportunity to see and enjoy the Nepali life and culture.
