Volunteer Opportunity description

WMC provides basic medical care, and a sophisticated gateway to specialty services through referrals and partnership with the communities' largest medical institutions.
We are looking for Nurses to provide patient vistits for WMC Urgent Care Clinic. At each clinic, you will work with a team of volunteers who happily contribute a variety of skills: interpretation, reception, nursing, medical assisting, referrals, data entry, and those who even prepare meals to energize volunteers before evening clinics.
Scope of Responsibilities:
  1. Provide referrals to patients for whom resources WMC Clinic may not be appropriate for.
  2. Perform RN Patient Visits, using standing orders and protocols.

Visits may include

  1. * BP Checks
  2. * Sore Throat/ Strep Throat
  3. * UTI
  4. * Pregnancy Tests
  5. * Some rashes
  6. As needed, assist other RN's in rooming patients, taking brief history and vital signs.
  7. Run CLIA waived lab tests
  8. Help keep equipment and exam rooms cleaned and sanitary

Qualifications Sought:
  1. Active RN license in good standing
  2. Experience, comfort level, or interest in learning, triage and patient assessment for a walk-in clinic.
  3. Work well in a team setting
  4. Flexibility and reliability
  5. Good sense of humor
  6. Sensitivity towards people of other cultural and socio-economic groups
  7. Desire to help the uninsured
  8. Spanish conversant or Bilingual preferred, but not required.

Volunteer Hours: Monday, Wednesday, 6-9 pm

How to apply

You will be covered for medical malpractice by special arrangement with Multnomah County. When you become a WMC volunteer, you will be considered a volunteer of Multnomah County assigned to the Wallace Medical Concern. As a Multnomah County volunteer, you will be considered an agent of the County while performing your volunteer duties with the clinic and, as such, you will be covered by the County for professional liability.
