Volunteer Opportunity description

BCGC MISSION AND DESCRIPTION
Civic Works' Baltimore Center for Green Careers (BCGC) is committed to the creation and implementation of business and employment development initiatives that contribute to environmental sustainability and create pathways out of poverty for Baltimore residents.

BCGC is pioneering an integrated approach for transforming the growing green economy into a pathway out of poverty through job training, social enterprise, and consumer demand generation. Baltimore's high concentration of energy inefficient homes and contaminated properties present a profound opportunity to both revitalize the built environment and create economic opportunities for underserved residents. With Maryland making unprecedented public investments in brownfields redevelopment and residential energy efficiency, BCGC is harnessing this job growth for the benefit of those who need it the most. More than ever, now is the time for BCGC to strive for ambitious goals and achieve them through new ventures and philanthropy.

BCGC ADVISORY BOARD — PURPOSE
Members of the Advisory Board bring expertise and relationships that will help BCGC to achieve its mission, and secure resources needed for carrying out its strategic priorities. The Board's charge is to assist BCGC leaders in new program/venture development, philanthropy and community engagement.

BCGC ADVISORY BOARD — MEMBERSHIP
BCGC Advisory Board members are asked to play four distinct roles:

  1. Be personally and passionately connected to the BCGC's work which translates into being an active ambassador for the BCGC and Civic Works in the community.
  2. Be a shaper of BCGC's vision and strategic priorities, challenging our thinking and actions with feedback, ideas, and contacts,
  3. Bring leadership to the BCGC's work by facilitating personal or corporate connections, participating in fundraising plans with individuals and corporate sponsors, assisting with program development, marketing, managing projects, and writing proposals.
  4. Bring consistency and structure so that BCGC's leaders can be accountable for BCGC's progress toward established goals.

Board members will be asked to attend four meetings per year (dates to be determined).
