Tenants Together is a nonprofit organization dedicated to defending and advancing the rights of California tenants to safe, decent, and affordable housing. We operate California's only hotline exclusively for tenants in foreclosure situations.
- Tenants are innocent and forgotten victims of a foreclosure crisis they did nothing to create.
- Almost 40% of foreclosed units are rentals.
- Foreclosed properties are typically acquired by banks that use scare tactics to drive tenants out of their homes despite existing tenant-protection laws.
- Over the last 3 years, more than 500,000 California tenants in foreclosed homes have faced no-fault evictions and been displaced with little time to adjust.
!!WE HAVE TO STOP THIS!!
Last year alone, our counselors helped 4,000 tenants throughout the state. As a Tenant Foreclosure Hotline Counselor, You Will:
- Help tenants assert their rights to protect their security deposits, keep their utilities on, and stay in their homes for as long as possible after foreclosure
- Connect tenants with local organizations that provide additional services
- Help our organization track banks, realtors, and lawyers who are routinely violating tenants' rights
Skills Necessary:
- Commitment to economic justice and tenant rights
- Ability to relay accurate info to people during a stressful moment in their lives
- Willingness to volunteer at least 3 hours per week at our San Francisco office (995 Market Street)
