Naturopathic Medicine for Global Health is seeking a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented person to serve as its Program Officer. The Assistant Program Officer will assist the CEO in managing program development, budgeting, planning, implementation and priority setting. He/She will facilitate cross-departmental coordination between and among staff teams working on housing, care, prevention, grantmaking, research/evaluation, and data management.

Founded in 2008, Naturopathic Medicine for Global Health is an international organization providing health care and humanitarian assistance in developing countries. NMGH's goal is to promote naturopathic medicine as a feasible and cost effective means of healthcare in developing countries, and to increase coverage and equity of basic health services. Our work focuses on areas of:

  • Women and child health
  • Improving Access to Health Care
  • Building Sustainable Health Delivery Models
  • Health Promotion and Public Health Research

NMGH conducts regular medical missions to Panajachel, Guatemala, during which medical volunteers (naturopathic doctors and other medical professionals) and interns provide free health care services to the local population. NMGH has recently started operating a Community Health Workers Project (CHW) in Lake Atitlan region, the world's first naturopathic-based community health worker program. The aim of the CHW Project is to help increase coverage and equity of basic health services for indigenous Maya women and children. The CHWs are trained to recognize basic medical emergencies and appropriately respond to these emergencies and make referrals to medical facilities along with them being health advocates for their communities and receive ongoing support and training from NMGH.

Principal responsibilities of this position include the following:

  • Assist the CEO in the development, implementation and monitoring of all programmatic initiatives;
  • Manage all activities and responsibilities in absence of the CEO
  • Coordinate all program-related activities to assure optimal use of resources, compliance with all funder requirements, and cross-departmental efficiencies;
  • Assist the CEO in developing annual and multi-year budgets and work plans for programs and grants/contracts;
  • Collaborate with other NMGH staff, partner agencies, and funders to develop and implement internal and external program monitoring, evaluation, and quality assurance activities;
  • Coordinate quality assurance activities to measure program impact;
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to grow NMGH's programs and services and diversify funding to maximize other funding sources
  • With department leaders and the CEO, prepare internal and external materials to reflect the depth, reach, impact, and diversity of NMGH's programmatic and policy work and achievements;
  • Represent NMGH as needed.

Qualifications:

Master's degree required, plus 1-2 years of experience in public health, medical or social service administration, including staff supervision, development, program management. Knowledge of naturopathic medicine, prevention and care services is preferred. Knowledge of healthcare reform, healthcare systems management and government funding streams is preferred. Experience conducting research and evaluation and clinical care or clinical management is helpful. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects, establish workload priorities, and meet deadlines is critical. The ability to work with diverse populations is required. Developing country experience required. Should be an excellent team worker
