Mentor Foster Care Youth

Posted on: November 21, 2012

Posted by: Best Kids, Inc

Description

Best Kids is a 501 ©3 non- profit organization that provides mentoring to foster care children in the District of Columbia. Foster- Care children are the most at risk population of children in America. With over 4,000 children in the District of Columbia's child welfare system and 44.5 percent of children age 12 or younger being placed in group homes or institutions at entry into foster care. The District of Columbia has the highest national percentage of children in group homes AND also the lowest national percentage of children 12 and over being discharged to a permanent home.

With statistics like that it is clear why the presence of a positive, caring and consistent adult is not only wanted but necessary in their lives. This is where YOU come in!

Adults in the DC, Maryland and Virginia areas that can commit to 10 hours a month for one calendar year can be the difference in the life of one of our very many wonderful kids. Starting with children aged six and continuing, as needed, to at least the age of 18, BEST Kids Mentoring Program will enable the youth to develop a positive sense of self; to acquire teamwork and group social skills; and to become productive members of society.

Remember "We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give"
