Do you remember what you wore on your first day of junior high? The beginning of a new school year is a critical time for establishing friendships and making impressions that follow children for much of their lives.
Now in its 8th year, the Arlington-Alexandria Coalition for the Homeless (AACH)'s Look Cool for School has helped hundreds of families give their children that special back-to-school outfit. We are calling on volunteers to purchase a complete ensemble, including a pair of shoes and backpack, for a specific child in one of our programs. Volunteers receive information on the sizes, favorite colors, and style preferences of each child they "adopt." Typically, volunteers spend about $50 per child.
If you would like to support the Look Cool for School program but are unable to adopt a student,AACHwould gladly accept gift certificates of any amount to stores where clothing can be purchased (i.e. Target, Old Navy, etc.).
