In this volunteer position, you will be linking callers from around the State (and sometimes the country) with no-fee support groups in their area that will help them cope with their specific problem situation. * There are support groups for most any stressful life problem: bereavement, parenting, divorce, illness, disability, women's groups and many other issues * You'll learn how to quickly find any of over 4,500 NJ groups and over 1,100 national and online support networks. * You can also link callers with any of over 300 helplines if they need one * Don't worry - our Clearinghouse staff are always close by to help you out with any call that you are not sure how to handle. * you'll learn how to answer basic questions about the services of the Self-Help Clearinghouse (e.g., the staff can help any interested caller who wants to start a needed new group in their area). * You'll learn how to log in a call right on the computer, after you finish helping someone. * you'll alert staff to calls for them, "Wendy, you have a call on line 1" * Can help out in other ways if interested, between phone calls. * Shifts are flexible: around 9:30 am - 12:30 pm, or from around 12:30 or 1PM - 4 pm, WEEKDAYS ONLY -especially Monday & Tuesday. Very sorry, no evening or weekend hours. * You'll leave knowing how you've helped a number of people finally find "others in the same boat who understand." and you'll know how much that meant to many of them by recalling it in their voices and words to you.
