United Way of Greater Atlanta engages all segments of our community to drive sustainable change in education, income, health and homelessness while continuing to address urgent and basic human care

Financial Review Volunteers help United Way realize its vision and mission by participating on a committee of volunteers who help ensure that United Way grants are awarded to fiscally stable agencies that are implementing programs in line with United Way's strategic plan.


Volunteers must have financial auditing, financial analysis and/or accounting professional experience

 Volunteers must have a commitment to the stewardship of dollars given by donors to United Way

 Volunteers must adhere to United Way's policies Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest agreement

 Volunteers are counted on to make every effort to complete financial reviews in accordance with the established United Way process

 Volunteers are asked to commit to serve a three-year term, with renewal on an annual basis



Review and analyze applicable financial statements as required by United Way including audits, current financial statements, budgets, Form 990's, etc.

Analyze and determine financial status of agencies by identifying trends in the financial reports and annual budgets.

Communicate or meet with agency executive director/finance personnel to review financials and clarify questions, if necessary.

Provide the committee with a completed Agency Financial Summary, and verbal report on finances if there are any issues at the wrap-up session. Highlight significant changes from prior years including reporting changes.

Communicate findings and address concerns with fellow members of the Financial Review Committee, Investment Volunteers and Agency Partners.
Approximate Volunteer Time Totals: 60 – 90 minutes per program
