Volunteer Opportunity description

VOLUNTEER TO TEACH COMPUTERS!
Volunteers needed to teach basic computer literacy to janitors and other service workers in Spanish. Help close Silicon Valley's digital divide!

Our Organization: The Building Skills Partnership (BSP) is a statewide non-profit collaboration between the Californian janitors' union, SEIU-USWW, community leaders, and responsible businesses to build a strong future for building service workers, their families, and communities by advancing skills, opportunities, and self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend computer teacher training. To be scheduled based on availability of volunteer teacher.
  • Teach a basic computer skills class (using a mouse, using Microsoft Word, creating an email account). Class size is generally 8 to 12 students.
  • Curriculum will be provided. Very little prep time required.
  • Able to commit to at least 1 Saturday a month.

Benefits: As a volunteer at BSP you will receive training and gain experience teaching basic computer skills, gain knowledge about the issues facing newcomer families, and learn about the social services and other resources available to immigrants and low-wage workers in the Bay Area counties. BSP has 501(c)(3), and volunteer hours can count towards fulfilling certain community service requirement.
