Chicago Youth Centers is a child and youth development organization dedicated to assisting children and youth in underserved communities in the Chicago region to discover and realize their full potential. To that end, CYC operates programs
on a continuum of care which includes Early Childhood Education, School-age Child Development, and Teen Leadership Development.

Title: After-school program assistants

Description: Chicago Youth Centers is a child and youth development organization dedicated to assisting children and youth in underserved communities in the Chicago region to discover and realize their full potential. We provide programs that help children and youth build the academic, social and emotional competencies and achievements they need to be successful.

School-Age Child Development: CYC's after-school program provides activities to kids aged 5-12, including full days of care on out-of-school days. Activities include tutoring, homework help, computer training, visual and performing arts, sports and recreation, life skills development, community service work and parent involvement opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead small group activities in relation to CYC's Positive Youth Development model (art, music, team sports, dance, team-building, leadership development, photography, fashion, poetry/creative writing, Spoken Word, graphic design, hip-hop music production, barber/hair styling, etc....)
  • Offer tutoring and homework assistance to youth after school.
  • Work with a small group of youth to provide more one-on-one attention, guidance and support; possibly assisting with implementing a behavior modification plan.
  • Assist with creating a physically appealing environment in the center, such as updating bulletin boards, creating youth-centered art-work areas, etc....
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor to the youth.
  • Occasionally assisting with the front desk reception area to welcome youth, parents, guests, and community members.
