Teach Math & Science in a Maasai Village, Tanzania

Posted on: February 6, 2012

Posted by: Red Sweater Project

Description

Red Sweater Project has positions open for experienced Math & Sciences Teachers to teach Form I Math, Biology, Chemistry & Physics courses at Mungere Secondary School between January and December 2014, engaging students to understand and participate in math and science subjects.

40 young and bright children will begin Form I classes at Mungere Secondary School in January 2013. Our students live in a remote Maasai community, where English is rarely spoken, and primary school is taught in Kiswahili. Yet, Tanzanian secondary school curriculum is English-based and the language barrier can be an obstacle to learning. Mungere students complete a 4-month English Immersion Program prior to beginning Form I secondary school courses, where they develop basic English speaking, reading and writing skills. Math and Science Teachers engage students to expand their math and science vocabulary, actively participating in Form I Math, Biology, Chemistry and Physics classes and extra-curricular activities designed to broaden understanding of math and science.
