The Peer Project | Youth Assisting Youth, a United Way member agency, is a non-profit charitable organization that provides mentoring and tutoring services for newcomer and at risk youth 6 - 15 years old. We need volunteers (especially guys) 16 - 29 years old, who are willing to spend their time supporting these youth and helping them realize their full potential.

  • Bilingual post secondary students and young professionals preferred but not required.

There are over 300 youth in our program right now waiting for a mentor and we need volunteers throughout the following areas:

• Downtown Toronto
• East York
• Etobicoke
• Markham
• North York
• Richmond Hill
• Scarborough
• Vaughan

Volunteers will provide guidance, support, homework help, coaching and leadership to youth on a one-to-one basis or in groups like after school programs and/or recreational activities. Volunteers can also attend FREE activities and professional sports events (i.e Blue Jays, Raptors, Argonauts, Maple Leafs) together with their youth. Comprehensive training and scholarships are also available.

Qualifications:

1. Attend a mandatory Volunteer Information Session (see below)
2. Must be 16 - 29 years old
3. Provide two professional references (i.e professor, employer, etc)
4. Successful completion of Vulnerable Sector Screening and interview
5. Able to commit to 3 hours a week on your own schedule for one year
6. Second language (i.e. Mandarin, Farsi, Spanish, Russian, etc.) preferred but not required.
