We look forward to welcoming you in Sri Lanka

'Together we live: together we shape our world.'

Give A Fig Volunteering (non-profit) are a specialist education provider operating from Anuradhapura, which is set half way between the beautiful beaches, corals and life filled seas (home to turtles, blue and sperm whales and spinner dolphins) of Sri Lanka's west and east coasts. We offer projects from 2 - 48 weeks in the dry zone of the North Central Province - a beautiful rural area boasting archaeological and religious buildings in beautiful settings. The wildlife is amongst the most amazing and accessible in the world, and each day could be a safari: elephants, fishing cats, civets, countless lakes, incredible bird life, crocodiles, monkeys all live outside of the many local national parks where you may see leopards. The rural communities with whom we work are welcoming, and they offer the opportunity to learn many skills and crafts that are no longer a regular part of life in the west. Learn to cook, to use the medicinal plants, and the many edible leaves and fruits that grow all around. You could also learn to carve wood, build furniture, or throw pots. The many religious festivals here of all faiths welcome your presence, and often, your active participation. It is a country that is hard not to fall in love with.

You will be housed in very good accommodation that we run and manage, and well supported and looked after by our team in Anuradhapura. We work a 4 day week, alternating between 4 days on 2 days off (4,4,4,2) to give you opportunity to travel Sri Lanka, rest, study, or whatever else you choose.

We operate with the support and backing of the education department here to teach and support pre-school children and teachers, deliver ICT programmes through English, as well as teach English to children and adults in rural villages, to orphan children and to the staff that look after them. We work with a university teaching English and recruiting staff for them, as well as teaching child and teenage monks at their school. Join us and be a part of this amazing experience - enhancing life, creating opportunities and developing ability - both yours and those with whom you work.
