Volunteer Opportunity description

Bridge to Freedom Foundation is a non-profit whose mission is to ensure that all survivors of modern day slavery are able to build the skills and resources needed to escape the cycle of modern slavery and abuse while attaining and achieve lives they choose.

Purpose:BTFF is seeking volunteers to help make our National Global Human Trafficking Awareness Day event a success! BTFF is hosting an information panel, film screening and cocktail reception to raise awareness to -and end- the fight against human trafficking around the globe and in our own city. BTFF seeks both day-of event volunteers to help with on-site registration and check-ins, as well as preparatory volunteers to help with promoting the event and gaining sponsorships.

Location: Annandale, VA (remote opportunities possible) and/or Westin Hotel Georgetown, D.C.

Date: December 15 - January 11th, 2013 - volunteers needed now and up until the conclusion of the event.

Preparatory Key Responsibilities:

  • Amasses potential sponsor information.
  • Contacts and follows up with sponsors.
  • Assists in the sales and management of event tickets.
  • Aids in creating promotional items such as mailers,brochures, posters and press releases.
  • Spreads awareness through various social media outlets.
  • Updates partner websites on the event.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Day of Event Key Responsibilities:

  • Greets guests and directs them to the proper locations.
  • Registers speakers and participants.
  • Answers questions about BTFF and provides the proper forms when necessary.
  • Helps organize silent auction items.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Time Commitment: Preparatory volunteers need to be available to work at least 10 hours a week up until the event on January 11. Our office is located in Annandale, VA, but working from home online and through the phone is also acceptable in some cases depending on the task and need. For day-of event volunteers, volunteers are needed to fill 16 to 24 shifts, lasting a minimum of 4 hours each. Our event will run from 8 am to midnight on January 11th.

Qualifications: Knowledge of computer and data entry, pleasant demeanor, dependability required. Event planning, fundraising and graphic design and PR experience preferable. Knowledge of Human Trafficking issues a plus.
