Being an advocate is easier than you think, and you can volunteer from your home! Volunteers are needed to train as Advocates for Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine's (SARSSM) 24-hour Crisis & Support Line serving Cumberland and York counties.
As an advocate you will provide support and information via phone from your home to victim/survivors and concerned others on the Crisis & Support Line. We offer a free comprehensive training and there is always a staff person available for support while you are on call. This is a very rewarding volunteer opportunity both personally and professionally and we offer many volunteer appreciation events throughout the year. Training sessions are typically held in the fall and spring. Our apring 2013 Training will begin Wednesday April 10th at 6 p.m. Please contact our Volunteer Program Coordinator, Natasha Wilson at natasha@sarsonline.org for all training times. Applications are currently being accepted.
Volunteers choose their own shifts; we ask that they take one shift per week during the 8am to 5pm hours. Volunteer advocates have access to pagers if needed.
Volunteers must be able to complete our agency's comprehensive advocate training in Portland during the 9am to 4pm time frame, must make a one-year commitment, and the minimum age is 18. Background checks are completed on all Advocates.
