Posted on: April 24, 2013

Posted by: WorldTeach

Description

Want to make a difference in a child's life and travel to a foreign country? Volunteer with WorldTeach Colombia and you will be given the opportunity to teach English at public schools through a partnership with Volunteers Colombia and the Colombian Ministry of Education.

Volunteer assignments span a wide range of levels and ages, and there are placements in elementary schools, in high schools, in universities, and in adult education learning centers. Some volunteers will be co-teaching with a Colombian counterpart, while others will single-handedly lead their own classes.Volunteers are usually responsible for teaching 20 hours a week, in addition to allotting time for planning lessons, developing new language instruction materials, and coordinating some activities, such as providing introductory English instruction to younger students at the schools. Volunteers are eligible to receive WorldTeach TEFL certification through our accredited certification program. Housing comes in all shapes and sizes, and volunteers could be living with host families or with individuals, pensions, or teacher housing and may be in houses or apartments.

Volunteers will depart in early July 2013 and early January 2014 for orientation, and must dedicate 11-12 months in service. Applications for the July 2013 departure are accepted on a rolling basis until June 1, 2013, and applications for the January 2014 departure are accepted on a rolling basis until October 15, 2013.

The volunteer commitment covers roundtrip airfare, health and evacuation insurance, housing, and monthly stipend to cover basic living expenses. The semester-long program requires volunteers to be between the ages of 21 and 74 by the departure date. Volunteers must also have a Bachelor's degree (in any subject) and demonstrate a desire to teach. Volunteers need not be a US citizen, but must be a native English speaker.
