Naturopathic Medicine for Global Health is seeking a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented person to serve as its Assistant Program Officer. The Assistant Program Officer will assist the Chief Program officer in managing program development, budgeting, planning, implementation and priority setting. He/She will facilitate cross-departmental coordination between and among staff teams working on housing, care, prevention, grantmaking, research/evaluation, and data management.

Founded in 2008, Naturopathic Medicine for Global Health is an international organization providing health care and humanitarian assistance in developing countries. NMGH's goal is to promote naturopathic medicine as a feasible and cost effective means of healthcare in developing countries, and to increase coverage and equity of basic health services. Our work focuses on areas of:

  • Women and child health
  • Improving Access to Health Care
  • Building Sustainable Health Delivery Models
  • Health Promotion and Public Health Research

NMGH conducts regular medical missions to Panajachel, Guatemala, during which medical volunteers (naturopathic doctors and other medical professionals) and interns provide free health care services to the local population. NMGH has recently started operating a Community Health Workers Project (CHW) in Lake Atitlan region, the world's first naturopathic-based community health worker program. The aim of the CHW Project is to help increase coverage and equity of basic health services for indigenous Maya women and children. The CHWs are trained to recognize basic medical emergencies and appropriately respond to these emergencies and make referrals to medical facilities along with them being health advocates for their communities and receive ongoing support and training from NMGH.

Development Director

Position Summary: The Director of Development is responsible for diversifying and developing new sources of funding for NMGH, with a focus both on foundation grants and on individual and corporate donors. The Director of Development will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Program Officer, Major Gifts Director and Board of Directors; to (1) establish annual fundraising goals and strategies and plans to reach them; (2) implement fundraising strategies and plans; and (3) develop the Board of Directors and Directors' networks into a powerful source of support for the NMGH. And the Director of Development will establish and maintain the systems and standards required to support successful fundraising.

Position Detail: The Director of Development is expected to take on the following roles and responsibilities:

Researcher, Strategist, Planner: Identify and continuously update existing contact lists with high-value individual, corporate, foundation and government prospects and develop strategies and plans designed to tap successfully the support potential of prospects:

  • Establish and maintain the NMGH's current database of donors.
  • Lead planning around annual fundraising goals in collaboration with the Fundraising Coordinator and NMGH Fundraising Committee.
  • Develop an innovative set of fundraising strategies and action plan, based on annual goals, including ongoing, highly participatory event series
  • Develop an innovative individual and corporate donor program for NMGH that fully leverages organization outputs and communications channels
  • Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing Director staff to create synergies and pathways between marketing/communications and development.

Fundraiser:Lead annual fundraising goals and plans with support from NMGH leadership and Board of Directors.

  • Continuously expand networks of support gathered around NMGH and its activities by implementing fundraising strategies, which may include varied events
  • Maintain in good health and expand existing funding relationships
  • Cultivate relationships with high-value prospects and donors though in-person meetings, events and other strategies
  • In collaboration with the CEO and CPO, work to develop an active Board of Directors, especially engaged in the financial support of the organization's activities and ambitions
  • Work closely with Board of Directors to develop the support potential of their networks
  • Coordinate with the Communications and Marketing staff to sync and fully leverage marketing in support of fundraising goals
  • Execute fundraising solicitations and appeals in a variety of media and maintain regular correspondence with existing donors, as needed
  • Handle all correspondence around fundraising, such as providing receipts and appropriate tax documentation
  • In consultation with CEO and CPO, prepare drafts of grant proposals and reports

Grants and Systems Management and Communications:Oversee existing funding relationships and manage all systems that support the identification and pursuit of strategic growth areas for the Institute:

  • Track and drive reporting processes and other necessary correspondence with existing funders across all the organization ( NMGH) current grants
  • Establish and maintain up-to-date records around all existing and potential funding relationships in a CRM database
  • In collaboration with the CPO, APO, and Communications Director prepare annual reports and other communications tools, like presentations, speeches, donor kits, focused on raising funds and/or developing high-potential networks

Position Type: Part-time, Volunteer 1-4 a week

Position Start Date: Immediate

Compensation: Volunteer position pending funding.
