Jumpstart is in need of English-Spanish interpreters and translators for family workshops in our target communities in San Francisco, and for workshop materials translation!
Jumpstart is an early education program that partners with preschools in low income communities, including Bayview-Hunter's Point, Visitacion Valley, Portola and Mission. Jumpstart recruits and trains college students to work with these children in their classrooms for one academic year to help strengthen early language and literacy skills. Jumpstart hosts a Family Engagement Workshop series to help involve the parents of these preschoolers, in the hopes of creating a more sustainable model to practice in the home. Volunteers will be asked to 1) perform direct service by translating content and interacting with families during Jumpstart's family workshops and/or community events and/or 2) translate documents created by Jumpstart for external distribution.
This volunteer position is need-based; hours worked will depend on Jumpstart's workshop schedule and the amount of document translation needed throughout the program year. Interpretation at family workshops and community events would be based throughout target communities in San Francisco. Translation support of documents can be completed remotely.
