Looking to get more involved? Want to inspire a love for reading?
The SF Education Fund needs volunteers for a unique one-time event.
WHAT:
The 24th National African American Read-In.
In celebration of Black History Month, hundreds of volunteers will read aloud a book by a black author and/or illustrator in elementary school classrooms across San Francisco.
WHEN:
Monday, February 4, 2013, between 8 and 11 am (times vary by school). The morning will kick-off with a breakfast gathering, where you will learn tips on how to be an engaging storyteller. Breakfast will be followed by a 30-minute classroom reading.
WHERE:
Participating SFUSD elementary schools.
WHY:
The goal is to make the celebration of African American literacy a traditional part of Black History Month activities.
HOW:
Sign up online at www.sfedfund.org/registration or via phone 415.695.5400 ext.3038. We will match you with a class and provide a list of suggested books. You can borrow a book from your local library or purchase a book, which can be donated to the class.
Join us in the celebration of Black History Month with elementary students!
