Volunteer Opportunity description

The Fire Lookout Host Program is an ambassador to the U.S.Forest Service. We educate the public on proper use of the forest and how important this amazing resource is to the San Bernardino area. The Fire Lookouts help in the first line of fire defense by:

Staffing seven lookout towers across the San Bernardino National Forest

Assisting the U.S. Forest Service with spotting smoke by reporting its location and status

Assisting the U.S. Forest Service with radio communication.

Assisting Dispatch/Fire Suppression staff by providing accurate weather reports

Interpreting the natural and cultural history of the Fire Lookouts and the surrounding forest and natural resources

Greeting over 15,000 visitors a year that visit the Fire Lookout

Helping in refurbishing and rebuilding Fire Lookouts

Trainings are held every year in April.
