Our Home Safety and Independence Program helps low-income senior citizens age safely in their own homes and it helps low-income disabled San Franciscans live more independently. We accomplish this by making minor modification to peoples' homes that have a big impact on their daily lives. The work we do includes, but is not limited to, installing safety grab bars in the bathroom, installing hand held shower heads, and installing interior and exterior handrails along staircases.
As a Home Safety Equipment Installer you will be responsible for completing quality installations of vital home safety equipment for some of our city's most vulnerable residents. In order to do this effectively you must be able to transport yourself to and from our equipment warehouse and job sites located throughout the city. You must also be extremely patient, conscientious and willing to suspend judgment.
Ideally we are looking for skilled tradesfolk who are comfortable working on homes independently or in small groups; however, we are willing to train those who come to us with the necessary passion for our work but without a background in the trades.
Ideally we are looking for volunteers who can make a long term weekly or monthly commitment; however, we are willing to work with folks on short term or intermittent engagements. Appointments generally take 1 to 2 hours and can be scheduled one at a time or multiple in a day. Weekday availability is preferred, but some weekend opportunities are available.
All candidates must complete a mandatory training program which includes, at minimum, an orientation and a series of supervised field trainings.
If you are interested in joining our team as a volunteer Home Safety Equipment Installer please call or email our office, ask for a volunteer application and sign up for our next volunteer orientation. Our office number is 415.905.1611 and our office email is info@rebuildingtogethersf.org.
