Volunteer Opportunity description

Interactive educational science centres are a rarity in much of Africa. As one of the few active planetariums on the continent, and with a capacity to seat up to 50 people, Ghana Planetarium offers a unique opportunity for those with an avid interest in astrology, astronomy, mythology and interactive sciences to pass along and share the passion of discovery.

They are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are practical, eager to learn, share their knowledge and inspire others. You would have the opportunity to assume an active role in running planetarium shows onsite and taking them on the road, undertaking research and coordinating activities. A minimum stay of four weeks, with the possibility to extend once in country.

  • Planetarium Assistant A Planetarium Assistant is required to teach astronomy to all age groups. The ideal volunteer will have a background in science and IT Technology so they can help to ensure the smooth operation of the technology and shows.
  • Project Coordinator A Project Coordinator is required to help with the day-to-day and administrative running of the centre, together with coordinating programmes. Science background and/or interest with project coordination skills would be most beneficial.
  • Researcher A Researcher is required to carry out and record materials and stories that will make astrology more relevant and reach younger and/or wider audiences. A background in the sciences with excellent writing skills will ensure the literature hits its intended target.
